Illustrated step-by-step instructions and photographs demonstrate how to construct the cover pages, and a unique binding technique, easy enough for a beginner to master.

Each project also features two other versions with the same binding geared to those with more or less experience. The novice version is for those who have no knowledge of the craft and want shortcuts, but love the look. For the quilter's book, for example, vintage quilt pieces become the covers so all that's needing in the binding. Or if you're interested in wool felting use an old sweater. This offers great opportunities for upcycling.

The expert version is for those who have a great deal of knowledge and proficiency of a certain craft - the master art quilter, for example. I believe I purchased the book on one of those bargain tables at Books-a-Million but you can get it here ($8.78).

Keeping Chickens: Thanks to Martha Stewart, I thought owning chickens would be glamourous. Thank goodness I read Ashley English's Keeping Chickens. This book keeps it real. I found the information included in this book to be incredibly resourceful, informative and actually a delight to read. I found myself on several occasions spouting off facts to my husband in amazement (Did you know that cannibalism is common among chickens??). I also loved that in the midst of all the instruction & supply list are these great human interest stories: Portraits of a Chicken Owner.

This book covers all details of keeping chickens under these main subject chapters: What to Consider, Selecting a Breed, Obtaining Chickens, Housing, Feeding, Hatching Eggs, Raising Chicks, Health & Wellness, Eggs and Recipes.

I honestly can not say enough about this book and how well written it is. If you are considering chickens then you must read this book!

Canning & Preserving: Canning to me has always been intimidating. I always thought you either needed a degree in chemistry or you needed to be born in the 1920's. I can remember my Grandmother Tucker canning in her small kitchen in Alpharetta, GA. Canning brings back memories and traditions in my mind. I would love to learn canning so that I could preserve my garden all year around. I believe Ashley English is going to help me learn canning with this book.

Ashley has such an easy way to her writing. I honestly believe that nobody writes about homesteading like Ashley. Of course, this book does not disappoint. The book is divided into the following chapters: Why We Can, Tools of the Trade, Canning Concepts, Ingredients, A Jam/Jellies/Preserves Primer, A Pickle/Relish/Chutney Primer, A Whole Fruit/Vegetables Primer and Seasoned Recipes. Again, Ashley adds human interest stories in her Portrait of a Canner, Canning parties and Trouble Shooting.

I honestly believe that this is the only book you need to learn canning - Yes, it is that good.

Those of you who know me, know I can't bake. Cook, yes. Bake, no and yes, there is a difference. However, that has all changed my friends. I now can bake cupcakes. Here is my review of this simply marvelous, magical cupcake recipe book. Buy it. I promise your cupcakes will be TO. DIE. FOR.

My Review: For this review I completed the vanilla cupcakes recipe (page 16) with vanilla icing (page 11). Honestly, I wanted to try the red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing but I have never had success with baking cupcakes and I did not want to try a recipe that required any additional work than necessary. The vanilla cupcakes turned out so delicious and perfect, I wish I had made the red velvet. Now I have the confidence to make both. Honestly, when I tell you I can't bake, I mean it. This is my very first successful batch of cupcakes.

What I loved most about this book is the simple ingredients and small serving sizes. The recipe did call for caster sugar which I found I could make my own by putting regular sugar in a food processor.

I also had to buy unsalted butter and whole milk, both common ingredients but not what I normally keep on hand. Everything else I had (of course every kitchen will be different). The book is small but very cute and Peter Cassidy does a great job photographing all the different varieties of cupcakes & muffins. Several to cupcakes note: vanilla, red velvet, chocolate, lemon, strawberry cheesecake, black bottom, lavender, banana & chocolate, green tea, pumpkin, & marshmallow. Several muffins to note: carrot & zucchini, spinach & cheese, blueberry and maple & pecan. Buy this book. 5 stars!

*One thing I would note. I like my cupcakes to have a little more icing on top. Next time I will consider doubling the icing recipe.

I am always on the lookout for innovative design and pictures of "new" ideas. This book delivers. Will I implement some of these ideas verbatim? Probably not. However, I will use the ideas presented by the author to help develop my room designs. I love the use of innovative products, textures and color that the author displays throughout this book. This is a grownup's design book. This is art.

The many full color photographs reflect modern, current, fresh design. Some of these interiors are in commercial settings and offer a real treat to all taste and design jobs. There is really something here for everyone. This book belongs in everyone's design arsenal of "go to" books for inspiration.

Think Architectural Digest meets Elle Decor meets Dwell.

At first I thought it would be cumbersome to flip through the pages and get a "real" feel for the book on my computer (I am still "old-school" and like to hold real paper) but then I decided to download this book on my new Ipad. Whoa sister, having this book portable opens up a brand new world of shopping, exploring and communicating EXACTLY what you mean when trying to get your ideas & points across.**

My Review: I really hate it when I don't like a book. Decor books are so subjective to taste and individual style. So, please take a moment to watch the video review I did of this book. I took the time to highlight several of the projects. Just remember, what I might not like, someone else will love. This book received lots of praise from industry professionals - which I am not.

The book is divided into over 14 chapters and includes more than 100 projects laid out into 272 pages (400 color photographs).

The color photographs are both pretty and helpful. Each craft has a "you'll need list", a comprehensive "here's how" and step-by-step photos - very well written and easy to follow. Basic sewing techniques are needed for some of the projects.

My Review: This is the debut book for Rosanna Bowles who is also known for starting a successful dish ware company. This book is sizable with wonderful color photographs and over 180 pages. The book is divided into 6 sections: Introduction, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Acknowledgments/Index.

I found the stories of Bowls and her family to be charming and the recipes basic, fresh and worth trying. This is a great book for the reluctant entertainer like myself. This book shows you the creating traditions is about much more than perfection but about quality time with your friends & family. Creating bonds and connections is at the heart of this book with simple traditional pleasures.

This would make a beautiful Mother's Day Gift, Bridal Gift, Shower Gift or Gift for yourself!

My Review: I am a big fan of DIY books. Just lately I have been getting into woodworking. This book is perfect for the novice like me but still has some challenging plans for the more skilled. Each project is organized with a materials list, supplies needed and tools needed. There are precise cutting measurements and diagram instructions. As well as detailed instructions for construction. If you are planting a garden this year (or years to come) then this book should be in your reference section. Some of my favorite projects are the Window Sash Cold Frame (pg. 18), Horizontal Tomato Support (pg. 43), Window Box Planter (pg. 66), Welcoming Arbor (pg. 73), Solar Dryer (pg. 88) and the Pitched Roof Birdhouse (pg. 32). This book really does go hand in hand with gardening.

This is a great gift book for the woodworker and gardener in your life. Or, if you are like me and love to build, then get this book for yourself :)

My Review: I read this little book, cover-to-cover. I was so touched to know that the author, Tereasa Surratt felt the same nostalgic feelings about cottages as I do. I had a kindred spirit connection while reading this book. My favorite part of the book was reading the story of how her brother and husband traveled by trailer with this little cottage, across two states. You will also love the photos included in this book. They tell a their own story complimented by Tereasa's words.

This is a story of a love affair with a house, its past and now future. This book would make a great gift for anyone buying their first home, anyone who loves to restore/remodel or anyone who loves cottages!

This is Gabriel, Making Sense of School: A Book about Sensory Processing Disorder

If you are a daily follower of my blog, then you know about Max. I don't divulge a lot of personal information on my blog, I mainly stick to decorating & creating. However, every once in a while, my heart becomes full and I am moved to write about something personal.

Did you know that I don't believe in coincidences? I believe that everything happens for a reason and what sometimes feels like luck (or a coincidence) is really God's whisper.

As some of you know, my son Max was adopted from Russia. You also know by now that we have struggled with his development. I have posted about Sensory Processing Disorder and how as a family we have battled this with Max. My last post about SDP was written at 2 am. That night I went to bed with a heavy heart and could not sleep. I just had to get some of Max's struggles written down in a post. In fact, my last sentences of the post reads like this, "This post has been heavy on my heart, which probably means there is someone out there who needs to read this. I hope it helps....". It was not 5 minutes later that I received an email from someone who needed my words. That is what I call a whisper from God and not a coincidence. God new that I could help someone and he put the sequence of events into motion.

This is how I found the book "This is Gabriel". God knew that I needed this book. He knew that Max would benefit from this book and now so will his school and special education teachers. Because I will be buying several copies of this book to give to others. I am doing this not because I am this nice generous person but because someone else out there needs me to. I am listening to God's whisper.

Now, with all this being said, here is my review of This is Gabriel: Making Sense of School.

Five years ago I had never heard of Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). Now that I have been entrenched with its meaning, I still find it hard to describe to others what SPD is and what effects it can have on children/families. This book helps to make it clear. So, even though this is a children's book about Sensory Processing Disorder, adults will also gain invaluable knowledge.

I love the bright illustrations and the simplistic definitions of SPD that are described throughout the book. The book does a fantastic job discussing the main parts of SPD: Sight, Hearing, Touch, Taste, Smell, Vestibular and Proprioception.

The author takes you on a journey of Gabriel's life and helps you to understand what happens when sensory input is misinterpreted. The authors writing style is easy to follow and even left me with "ahh-haa" moments.

(This picture made me laugh because one of Max's biggest struggles is with smell)

Byron read this book to Max (age 6) and then tried to engage him in discussion. I will be honest, Max really did not care nor did he really have anything to say about Gabriel. I was hoping that Max would understand he was not alone with some of his feelings. But he was more interested in his Star Wars action figures than discussing SPD. So in all fairness, he is probably a little young for this book and discussion. As a mother, I am just glad this book was written. Because one day soon, Max will be ready to read and discuss SPD and I am so thankful to have this book.

I plan on buying Max's elementary school several copies and also the preschool he attended. I will even make sure the special education department has their own copies. This book needs to be made available to anyone who works with children.

Hartley, I am so thankful you listened to your whisper and wrote this book. I needed it and now others will get a copy too.

For this review I made the Ruby Sangria on page 71. This Sangria proved to be light tasting and refreshing. I recommend this book to anyone wanting simple delicious entertaining. This would also make a cute gift...think housewarming!

Here are the pictures & recipe of my Sangria from Porch Parties:

Ruby Sangria (page 71)

1 (750ml) bottle red wine

1/2 cup brandy

1/2 cup orange flavored liqueur

1/2 cup fresh OJ

1/4 cup sugar

2 cups orange wedges

2 cups red apple wedges

2 cups green apple wedges

2 cups grapes

1 (750ml) bottle sparkling water, chilled

Garnish: with extra of the above fruit threaded on small skewers

Combine the red wine, brandy, liqueur, OJ and sugar in a large pitcher; stir well. Add the oranges, red & green apples and grapes. Chill for several hours.

Just before serving, add the sparkling water.

Pour the Sangria into red-wine goblets filled with ice. Garnish with fruit kabobs, if desired.

Take two aspirin in the morning. Kidding, the book does not really say this!

My Review: I actually did not want to review this book. I told them that I did not have time to read nor was I a good writer. They did not listen. I told them that I only review decorating books (with lots of pictures) and that my blog readers don't want to hear about fiction novels. They did not listen and sent me this book anyway. I am so glad that they did not listen to me and now you need to listen...

Have you ever read a book that at the end of each chapter you would count the pages of the next chapter just to see if you had time to keep reading? I just finished The Season of Second Chances and my world stopped for two days. For two days I did nothing but sneak a chapter here and sneak a chapter there. I was hooked and hooked hard!

The Season of Second Chances is a story about Joy Harkness a 48 year old literary professor who is asked to take a new job in a new town. Joy thinks nothing of moving and finds herself buying and restoring a rundown Victorian. In comes Teddy Hennessy, the town's handyman, to help Joy restore her new home. I was surprised at my feelings of trust toward Joy. When I realized that her vantage point could not always be trusted, I found myself mad at her and emotionally invested in her well-being. But more than these two characters, Diane Meier writes a story that is clever and funny. It is a story of personal growth, taking chances, finding your way in life and when tragedy strikes Joy and her new friends, this becomes a story about family.

My favorite quote from the book comes from Joy "But my vantage point was perhaps, too close to the shore to see that I had, at last, begun to swim toward my own life" (page 162).

My mind was like a movie, playing out each eloquently written sentence, scene by scene. Even now my mind still drifts to Joy and her life. I was left wanting more and will continue to follow Diane Meier.

I loved this book and so will you.

This is the first Sheila Walsh book I have read. I picked this book from the Thomas Nelson Bloggers Book Club because I was hoping to strengthen my trusting relationship with God. I was also yearning for inspiration, direction and scripture. Ms. Walsh delivered on some of what I was looking for but fell short on others.

I enjoyed the stories from the bible and the different biblical figures she discusses. I am very weak in my scripture knowledge and I always enjoy the opportunity to learn more. Ms. Walsh told some of these stories in a way that I was able to learn and understand. I had several "ah-ha" moments but other times I was confused and lost. I probably would have gained more from the stories had I had a little better knowledge of the bible. However, I did walk away with a better understanding of the Bible's characters and their walk with God and how trust played such an important role.

Several stories of note:
1. Forgive Much & Loving Much- The story of Paul. Ms. Walsh writes of Paul "broken vessels seem to be uniquely crafted to carry grace. Paul never compromised the gospel of Christ but he brought it with a tender heart and compelling passion so that others would know this Jesus who saved him."

2. God's Grace - Time to Take a Stand- God's Grace. Ms. Walsh says "Do you see that no matter how often you fail, it is never too late to take your place at Jesus' side, never too late to trust him?"

3. The Call- Leap of faith. I enjoyed this chapter the most. Ms. Walsh talks about knowing that God was asking her to let go and to move on. This chapter is about taking a leap of faith or at least a little jump.

The best chapters of this book can be found toward the end. Unfortunately, this book did not captivate me and I had a hard time finishing it. I was left feeling incomplete and wishing for more.

This book goes into good detail without getting too technical and overwhelming.

Author Cal Patch was a clothing designer for Urban Outfitters and Free People (one of my favs!) before going on to create her own label, HodgePodge.

My Review: This book is about creating personalized patterns for a limitless wardrobe. The book is divided into 5 chapters:
1. Getting Started: this includes measuring your body, supplies needed, calculating fabric and sewing techniques.
2. Draping Using Basic Blocks: this includes principles, bodice, fitted sleeves and the basic skirt.
3. Making your Paper Blocks: this includes pattern making, darts, dress block, loose sleeve block and trouser block.
4. Creating your Wardrobe: this includes tops, sleeves, skirts, trousers and dresses.
5. Extra Elements: this includes pockets, facings, necklines, waistbands, cuffs and collars.

I love the illustrations and pictures in this book. The instructions are laid out clean and precise with helpful pictures. However, I think I need the pattern making book that comes before this one. I found myself re-reading, getting confused and having trouble understanding the instructions. I must note that I am a "simple seamstress". I currently sew with McCalls easy patterns. So, if you have sewing experience and want more creativity in designing your wardrobe, then this book is for you.

My Review: This is an inspirational gift book that encompasses all of life's moments: Sun, Rain, Happiness, Pain, Gain, Loss, Hellos and Goodbyes. In fact one of the book's first pages is a "To and From" page for easier giving to others.

The book takes a life moment and gives some inspirational words on the subject, tells several stories on this topic and then ends each story with a bible verse. It is beautifully laid out and very easy to read. Bob Perks does a wonderful job of speaking to the readers heart and a filling that heart with inspiration. The stories tell valuable lessons and are written to bring you closer to God.

At first glance, the book seemed overwhelming. Most of these crafts will take practice and success will not be achieved on the first try. Some of these crafts are very artistic and tradesmanship worthy.

This is an excellent resource book. However due to the skills needed to complete most of these crafts, I am rating this book 4 out of 5 stars.

My Review: Exactly what the title says, "One-Yard Wonders". This book is about creating and sewing projects with one yard of fabric. The book is divided into 11 chapters: Sewing Fundamentals, Dwell Redux, Household Affairs, Craft Organization, On the Go, From Head to Toe, Carry it All, Outfit your Small Wonder, Accessorize your Little One, Playtime and your Furry Friends. There is also an envelope included with pattern pieces, a glossary, resources and applique pieces section. Did I mention the the book is spiral bound? I just love when a craft book goes above and beyond and makes my life easier by laying flat. This book truly includes it all.

My Review: This is a great book for getting organized in the new year. Store It! is full of useful information from top designers. Most of the ideas can be adapted to fit any space, big or small and are practical for every budget.

I love how the corner fireplace was used in this space. What great storage in the window seat and the books around the TV help to balance the space.

Store It! is divided into 8 main chapters: Entrance, Welcoming Spaces, Kitchens, Kitchen Extras, Work-Spaces, Bedrooms, Bathrooms and a section called Out-Of-The-Way Places. There is also a resources section to help with shopping and product research.

I love the use of a closet to house a child's bed. This is such a cute idea. What a lucky kid!

I enjoyed several of the rooms and found myself marking 5-6 different photos for reference. Several of the photos looked staged and not practical (closets and garage) but overall I walked away with some practical organization ideas. Be sure to read this book. The book offers very smart tips and advice for saving time & space when it comes to organizing everyday items. What I did not get from this book was anything new. I felt like most of the organizational applications had been done before- a real been there, done that moment. I wish there had been more instructional How-To and Do It Yourself tutorials. Most of the shelving and organizational tools looked custom but might be a good starting point for Do It Yourselfers to copy.

This home office is set-up in a kitchen. I love the chalk board backsplash and galvanized bins used for storage. I also believe that small home offices in the kitchen are a great idea. Where else would you find a better space to conduct home business but in the heart of the home - the kitchen!

I thought that this was a very practical storage for a closet laundry room. So many of us have our laundry rooms behind louver bulky doors. Removing the doors and installing a curtain really helps with this space. Also, the adjustable shelves come in handy for the different sizes of detergent bottles.

If you are trying to get a handle on your current clutter, are downsizing or building a new home, then this book could provide some simple storage ideas and inspiration.

My Review: I get so use to looking at magazine, staged rooms, that I have forgotten what real homes look like. This book gives you real cottage. Perfect English Cottage is about the quintessential charming, cozy, country inspired home.

I love the size of this book (9" x 11"). I actually chose this book for review based on the cover. It is so cheerful, cozy and bright.

There are twice as many pictures as there are pages. The photographs are spectacular. The book is divided into 5 chapters; Romance, Character, Holiday, Simplicity and Elegance. At the end of each chapter there is a useful review picking up on ideas and also a comprehensive directory of sources. You can get the Perfect English Cottage look for yourself!

This book with it's pictures and stories took me to a place that I want to have in my home all the time. I can picture the cobblestone lined streets, thatched roofs and roses around the door.

My Review: This book is the "go to" for all things cookie swap. Not only does the book give you tips for how to organize and host a cookie swap but the book also gives you great tips on baking the best cookies at the swap!

The book is a very manageable 5x7. It is spiral bound and lays flat for easier reading when cooking (I love these kinds of considerations). I would like to have seem more photos included with the recipes but they did write the recipes "large-batch" to make cooking and giving easier (another great consideration).

It is no secret that I can't bake. Cooking yes, Baking no. There is a difference! From now on when I get invited to a cookie swap, I am going to use this book and cook all the delights: Coconut Macaroons, Cinnamon Spirals and Nut Cresents. I will have those "cookie swap church ladies" swooning with cookie envy!

This would make a great stocking stuffer or better yet, a great addition to a gift basket. Just add the book with a batch of cookies in a cute basket - all tied up in a bow. Perfect!

My Review: The is a nice sized coffee table book. It is divided into 3 main sections: Simple French, Elegant French and Eclectic French. This book exhibits traditional French style with many different views of homes. One of my favorites is the home of Spencer Swaffer, Flower Power. It is a bright harmonious mix of French inspired styles that will leave you cheerful.

Another show stopper is the pictures showcasing La Fabrique. The extraordinary bathroom in this home has four shiny basins, hand-bevelled mirrors and a magnificent slate-floor.

Through-out this book is several other pictures that left me "dog-earing" the corners of the page: a swedish buffet with the most perfect worn paint, moss covered staddle stones, minimalist stone staircase and a long zinc-topped table. Really, there is something for everyone!

I have to be honest here...this book might deserve 4 stars. The more I look though this book, the more I like it. If you like French decorating, then you need to give this book a try. Also, if you would like furniture refinishing ideas with a European look, then definitely by this book!

My Review: I have never owned a greek cookbook and other than making my own chickpea hummus, I have never cooked Greek food. I did not grow up with Greek food. I have never been to a Greek restaurant. I believe this cookbook could change my cooking habits. I believe the recipes from this cookbook could find their way onto my table.

This book should be viewed as a resource for Greek food and recipes. Every cook should have this book included in their arsenal. This is an excellent reference for original Greek recipes with a modern twist.

I have to admit, I was intimidated by this book at first glance. It is a large book with overwhelming ingredient lists and hard to find items. Would a working mother really have time to shop and cook these recipes for her family? I will tell you honestly that some of these recipes are far too advanced for my family. The Poached Halibut with Cypriot Shellfish Salad, Cucumber-Yogurt Broth & Caviar has 49 ingredients including sheep’s milk yogurt, live razor clams and sturgeon caviar. I don’t think my local Kroger will be able to accommodate. I bring this up not in a negative way but to keep your expectations in check. This is not your casual Food Network recipe book. This book is about so much more than Greek food. It is about culture, family, traditions and the spirit of Greece.

What I am planning for my table: Spanakopita, Dried Fruit Salad with Thyme-Honey Vinaigrette and Grilled Watermelon & Grilled Manouri.

My Review: This book was fun! When I first received the book, I spent my time looking over all the colorful pictures and step-by-step instructions. I then marked a couple of the bags that I liked the most. After I narrowed my list down to about 6, I studied the projects and picked what I thought would be the easiest to complete. I chose "burlap & print shopper, (pg. 58)" for my review project. This is a great bag to take to the grocery store, the beach or to store kid's toys. I did not have burlap for this project but used a sturdy outdoor Waverly fabric and a houndstooth print. The book talks about recycling, so I used what I had! My one complaint with the finished product is that the seams on the inside of the bag are un-finished. Not a big deal but it would look better had the instructions included a way to finish them. There was only 5 listed instructions and 5 materials listed for this project. I thought the instructions were simple but basic sewing skills are going to be needed. This is a picture of my "print shopper."

The book is divided into 5 chapters: purses, shoulder bags, shoppers & totes, evening bags and kid's bags. There is also a detailed techniques and templates chapter. The book has some great ideas for recycling materials. I especially liked the "packaging tote (pg. 62)." The bag is made from recycled labels, stamps, postcards, paper bags, graphics from fruit crates and old tickets. The ideas are endless!

If you love to create, sew or craft, then this book is for you. There are 35 step-by-step projects for totes, bags and purses. Plenty to keep you busy!

My Review: Let me first be honest here. I am writing this review while eating a Poptart, so my culinary choices might not be right for reviewing a cookbook but this cookbook is for kids and I have one of those. So, I am at least partially qualified. There also might be a cultural differences in this cookbook. I reside in the United States and this book is published by Ryland, Peters & Small, who have a strong presence in London.

This would be a great cookbook, if you were not a kid. Unfortunately, the title says "child-friendly food" so I can not give this cookbook high marks. How many kids do you know that will eat the following: smoked mackerel pate (pg. 61), leek frittata (pg. 74), fiorentina pizza (pg. 120), herby trout triangles (pg 122) and fish pie (pg. 145). I can see my son's gag reflex in full glory.

I might not be able to recommend this book to kids but it is a great cookbook for adult taste buds. The book is divided into 6 basic chapters: breakfast & brunch, soups & snacks, lunchboxes, hot dishes, desserts and teatime treats. The ingredient lists for each recipe are minimal, time saving and the flavors seem appealing. I did not try any of the recipes for this review. I like the size of the book (7.5" x 7.5") and the color pictures are nice and coordinate well with each recipe.

If you have a child that will try anything, with far reaching tastes, than this cookbook is for you. It will bring a little variety to your meals and the recipes are easy enough that kids could help in prep--making this even more delightful!

My Review: I enjoyed this book! In fact, I have marked several of the projects to complete over the Thanksgiving holidays. For this review, I completed the Snow Globes project on page 129. Max and his friends had so much fun doing this project. The Snow Globes were so easy and relatively fast for my 5 year old's attention span -- a perfect combination!

The projects range from the classics; Paper Mache, Finger Puppets to some newer projects; Crystallizing Pansies, Modeling with Balsa Wood. The color pictures are bright and descriptive. The instructions average around 5 step and are easy to follow. The items needed for the crafts are simple to find.

The book is divided into 4 sections; Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Very creative! Some of the additional projects I can't wait to try...Pompoms, Peanut Heart, Pumpkin Birdseed Feeder and the Snow Globes (see below for my pictures & snow globe tutorial).

Here are the Snow Globes from page 128. Max had a blast adding all the ingredients to the jar and picking out an ornament. The night before we planned to make these snow globes, I glued all the ornaments to the lids and let them dry overnight. I also sealed the ornament with a spray polyurethane. This is not noted in the instructions.

I bought all my items from Walmart.

1. Glass Jars

2. Distilled Water

3. Glycerin

4. Clear Liquid Dish Soap

5. Glitter

6. Strong Waterproof Glue

7. Ornament/Figurine

8. Craft Silicone Sealant, optional

Glue the ornament to the jar lid. Let dry overnight and spray with sealant (polyurethane).

I used baby food jars for the smaller snow globes.

Fill the jar with distilled water. Get it as full as you can but take into consideration the weight of the ornament.

Add approximately 2t of glycerin, 1/2t of dish soap.

Add 5-6t of glitter.

Add silicon sealant around the lid for a leak proof seal. Shake & enjoy!

My Review:

I have never seen butterflies photographed like this. It is like they are plugged in and emitting electricity. All the butterflies are photographed with a back background, which only enhances the images more. This is truly beautiful. Stunning. I love the big glossy pages and the feel of the book with each turning page. This is a substantial book. There is not a lot of words in this book, really no need with these photographs, but there are literary quotations and small bits of information scattered about. Just the right amounts as not to distract from the photographs.

Fred Gagnon wrote the forward. He was the curator of a man-made ecosystem that shelters three to four thousand butterflies, as well as the plants needed for their habitat.

This is a museum quality book. This is a coffee table book for the interiors in Elle Decor Magazine.

My Review:
Yes, Max Brenner is a Chocolate God. Mr. Brenner has amazingly crafted the diverse flavors of chocolate to create 65 decadent recipes bound in this one book. You think you know dessert pizza? Think again. Max's Bad Boy Chocolate Pizza comes complete with a chocolate-hazelnut spread and topped with chopped marshmallows. If that did not wet your appetite, how about A High School Bonfire Chocolate Melting Heart Cake that is filled with a mixture of heavy cream, marshmallows & white chocolate. My knees are getting weak just thinking about these delicious recipes. What you will not find in this book is traditional pictures of the recipes. This book is just as much about chocolate as it is about art, words and the intimate stories they tell. This book is seductive.

One final thought, my review would not be complete without the recognition of the artwork. What grabbed my attention among these 144 pages was the illustrations by Yonatan Factor. Page after page of pop art eye candy. I have found a new favorite artist. The pages of this book will one day be framed and hanging on my wall.

I am so excited for the opportunity to review Jack Daniel's Spirit of Tennessee Cookbook Vol 1. I am not only excited because I love cookbooks, food and Jack but because I lived in a small town right beside Lynchburg, TN which is home to the Jack Daniel's Distillery. Jack Daniel's is not just about whiskey. It's about food, family and community. This is truly an American iconic brand.

After flipping through the many recipes what really stuck out was the pictures of the people and places that the authors chose to spotlight. Magazine Review: Fresh Home: Easy Ideas for Hands-On People

Let me first start off by saying that I am a tough reviewer. It's just that I am at a point in my life that if something doesn't reach out and grab me, I am not taking notice. Also, if something does not work properly and easy, I am done with it. You have one shot with me, you had better make it good or I am over you. The following statements are strictly my opinion. What works for me may not work for you. So, take what you can and leave the rest.

Fresh Home Magazine just published its first issue. The Editor in Chief is Neil Wertheimer and Creative Director is Michele Laseau. This magazine will publish 4 times a year.

Did I like this magazine? Yes and No. I liked the way the pages look, fresh and crisp. The layout has all kinds of graphics that note special information regarding products etc. Sometimes these graphics distracted from the pictures other times they were helpful. The magazine also packs a pretty good punch when it comes to "how-to" information.

The magazine is laid out into 4 basic categories: Favorite Things, Decorating, Outdoors and Fresh Living. Simple but nice. The magazine also has a nice balance of advertisements and content. They even list a Favorite Bloggers page (Why wasn't my blog listed? Kidding. Kinda).

So, are you ready for the other shoe to drop? Here's where the magazine lost me. It was too simple and not very exciting. I did not see anything I had not seen before. There was no depth and no real design star. I was left feeling "ho-hum" and incomplete. I think the magazine is trying to include too many subjects. It should either be Decor or Gardening, not both. Maybe if they could concentrate on one thing instead of four, I could walk away more inspired. I did not try any of the DIY projects. So, I can't speak on the accuracy of the instructions. The DIY pictures look helpful and the directions look complete. I guess I am just at a place in my life that if I need a new mailbox, I will go buy one. Building a mailbox is just not exciting to me. Yes, there are other "How-To" projects, none the more exciting.

Now for the kicker. I actually tried to buy a subscription to this magazine. They are offering a charter membership for $10. I went to their web address: www.freshhomemag.com, which by the way is not up and running yet (*points finger at IT department*), and I clicked on the subscription sidebar. I was directed to a fill-in the blank page with credit card info etc (they do not accept American Express, *points finger again*). Then I hit submit. I was directed to a Birds & Blooms page offering me a free copy. Ok, so I don't want my free copy of Birds & Blooms but there is not a "no thanks, close this window" button. I am looking, looking, nothing. So I hit the back button and I am taken to the original fill-in the blank subscription page. Did my transaction go through? I check my email and there is no confirmation. WTF? I don't want to hit submit again for fear that I will buy the subscription twice. Oh well, I am done at this point. So normally, I would have offered one lucky reader a free subscription but I have no idea how to purchase this magazine.

I will leave you with one last part of the magazine. I am always a sucker for a good "Before & After".
